Mississippian Culture

Enlarge---------Return American Pipes Home Page
This Effigy Pipe is a motif called "Falcon Warrior" in the Missis-sippian Culture . It may have been smoked by or buried with a soldier of the Falcon Warrior Society.

Notice the conical bowl, the elaborate hair, a necklace, and the atypical suggestion of feathers.

The pipe is carved from dark Soapstone from Tennessee or Alabama. It exhipits no wear and is therefore probably a reproduction.
